Our current energy mix confirms the centrality of natural gas as a pillar of energy supply security and a support for energy transition, when taken alongside the development of bioenergy and renewable energies. New vectors like hydrogen complement existent ones. At the same time, we invest in technological research to find alternative energy sources such as “magnetic confinement fusion” which could change the energy world forever.
We develop technologies for the transition with the aim of accelerating business transformation and continuing on the path towards decarbonisation, thanks to the expertise of our Research Centres in Italy and a network of collaborations for global innovation. We oversee every phase of technological innovation, from researching new solutions to developing pilot plants, and finally scaling up those technologies to industrial applications once they have passed all tests and proven to be the most efficient.
The skills of our people are enriched thanks to a network of innovation partnerships in Italy and abroad and the constant dialogue between our internal resources and leading external organisations. Our partnerships involve universities, research centres, technology companies and startups, and lead to the implementation of tangible projects to accelerate the decarbonisation process. Using our experience and knowledge of the engineering and scientific sectors, we support emerging ideas with the aim of developing them on an industrial scale and creating long-term value. For this reason we have adopted shared methodologies in order to identify areas of improvement and benefits.
Achieving “Net Zero” by 2050 means that we must continue with the progressive decarbonisation of the Oil & Gas industry. With this in mind, more opportune reservoirs play an increasingly relevant role in the more efficient development and production of new resources, enable the implementation of renewable energies to electrify production activities and the implementation of CO2 capture and storage projects (CCS) The combination of these three factors - efficiency, renewables and CCS - results in the reduction of scope 1-2-3 emissions.
